The project Gamebadgesin which WALGA participates as a partner, has created and launched a Skills map to provide a framework of titles and skills for professions linked to video game development.
The skills required for the various roles are divided into different levels of expertise:
- Bronze level highlights the skills of juniors and students in video games
- Silver level covers most independent professionals
- The gold level is reserved for industry gurus.
The aim of the Skills Map is to help all those involved in the gaming industry, from juniors to seniors, not forgetting career changers. The map is an online tool free of charge that anyone can use, and which serves as an introduction to the different roles in the gaming industry, the types of skills required and how to access the next level of expertise.
The Gamebadges project also creates an open badge ecosystem, where people can apply for badges and have their skills recognized within a standardized framework.
The first tests of this ecosystem have begun and will continue throughout the year. Christophe Ladurona teacher at Haute Ecole Albert Jacquard and member of the WALGA Board of Directors, represents the Walloon ecosystem and is developing the project. The idea is that the skills map and open badges will help connect talent with video game studios by facilitating skills recognition, with each badge serving as verified proof of skills.
Gamebadges brings together nine project partners and over 20 associate partners from nine countries. The project is co-financed by the European Union. The launch of this skills map for the European games industry would not have been possible without this funding.
